Haul F TH* V/A Susan Morris And Drury Bridges Attending WCU In Gifted Youth Project Susan Luanne Morris and Drury Frank Bridges, Jr., of Brevard are enrolled in West ern Carolina University’s 1973 summer program for superior and gifted children and youths. The announcement was made by Dr. Roy L. Cox, program coordinator and head of the WCU Department of Curriculum and Instruction. A total of 253 youths from seven states are attending the five-week session ending July 27, Dr. Cox said. The students, nominated by their school principals and screened by the university, have IQs ranging from 130 upwards to genius levels.*They reside in a university residence hall and attend classes in the Camp Laboratory School here. Susan Luanne is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene M. Morris and is enrolled in the gifted math class. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Drury Frank Bridges, Sr., Drury Frank is at tending the reading improve ment class. ■ *"’i . . News From Cathey’s Creek Contains Many Personals By - Mrs. Ken Klley CATHEY’S CREEK — Sum mer vacation is over for several of us in these parts. The ma jority of Ross road residents work at American Thread and they spent the first week of July off, some were away and some caught up » on work at home. This section was very sadden ed to learn of the tragedy where John O’Shields was drowned. His folks are former residents and he was a great grandson of “Uncle Eli” Mc Kinney. We wish to express our deepest sympathy. He had sev eral relatives in this section. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Mann en joyed a nice fishing trip to Lake Hartwell for their vaca tion. They were visited by her two sons and families over the past weekend. We want to send special con gratulations to three new fam ilies who have had new arrivals last week: Mr. and Mrs. Junior Sineath a son, Christopher Michael. She is the former Elaine Miller. A baby daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Har old Miller, Pamela Christine, in Pardee hospitaL The Millers are children of Bessie and Charlie Miller. Also Mr. and Mrs. Steve Buchanan are the proud parents of a girl, Reta Renee. Mrs. Buchanan is the former Barbara McCallister of Greenville, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Chap pell and children of York, Penna., spent the week of the 4th visiting relatives, a brother Ulysses and Polly Chappell and family here and little Teresa Chappell returned home with her unce for a visit. We understand Mrs. Evie Norris has had a bout with pheumonia and was confined to Pardee hospital last weekend. We hope she is much improved at this time. Weekend visitors of the Bur lin McCalls were his mother, Mrs. Dorothy Ramey of Easley, S. C„ and Mrs. McCalls sister, Mr. and Mrs. James Reece of Pelzer, S. C. Their son Kevin remained to spend three weeks with his aunt Ernestine and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Mack McCall. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Lyday and daughters Pam and Marsha went to the beach the first part of the week for their vacation and Mr. and Mrs. Winston Mer rill and children of Aiken, S. He assumed duties as head of this 250 members group oh July 1st gnd will hold office < for the 1973. - 74 fiscal year. 1 Mr. Ferrell has served as treas urer, secretary and vice presi dent of the section since joining rAPFl in 1053. A native of Asheville, he graduated from the University if North Carolina where-he re ceived a B. A. degree in Chem istry. He also completed grad uate courses at U. N. C. and lapermaking courses at West ern Michigan University and ’ he University of Wisconsin. ; In addition he has had special studies i» human relations in supervision, blue print read* Lng, job instruction training, and color development and con trol.
